How car donation works in Vermont

The full process from form to tax receipt — nothing hidden.

At Green Wheels, we believe that giving back to our Vermont community should be a seamless and rewarding experience. Our unique approach ensures that your vehicle donation directly supports a range of essential benefits-research services for local residents in need. By simplifying the donation process, we connect individuals not just with the joy of giving, but also with a variety of programs designed to enhance the lives of our neighbors here in the Green Mountain State.

The full process

Day 1

Inquiry About Your Vehicle

Start the process by reaching out to us for a no-obligation inquiry. You can easily fill out our online form or give us a call. We’ll ask for some basic details about your vehicle, whether it’s running or not. Every vehicle, from trucks in Burlington to sedans in Brattleboro, has the potential to make a big impact locally.

Day 2-3

Provide Vehicle Details

Once you express interest, we’ll guide you through providing more specific details about your vehicle. This includes its make, model, year, and condition. The more we know, the better we can assess how it can benefit our local programs that support neighbors in situations like food insecurity or health care challenges unique to Vermont.

Day 4

Schedule Pickup

After we’ve got all the details, we’ll work with you to schedule a convenient pickup time. Our local team takes pride in being respectful of your time and property. We’ll accommodate your schedule, whether you’re in Montpelier or Stowe, aiming to make this as easy as possible for you.

Pickup Day

Pickup Your Vehicle

On the day of your scheduled pickup, our team will arrive at your location promptly to collect your vehicle. We handle all the necessary paperwork and ensure that everything goes smoothly. Once your vehicle is on the road to helping others, you can feel confident that you're making a difference right here in Vermont.

Day 6-7

Transport to Auction or Recycling

Your vehicle will be transported to a local auction or recycling lot. Depending on its condition, we’ll assess the best route to maximize its value. This process not only assists the environment through recycling but also brings in funds that can directly support local residents accessing vital benefits like fuel assistance or 3SquaresVT.

Day 8

Proceeds to Research Services

Once your vehicle is sold, the proceeds go directly into funding essential research services that identify and connect Vermonters with programs tailored to their needs. Your generous donation helps bridge gaps for families throughout our beautiful state, allowing them access to critical resources that improve their quality of life.

Day 9-10

Receive Your Tax Receipt

A tax receipt will be mailed to you shortly after the sale of your vehicle. This documentation is important for tax purposes, so you can feel good knowing your charitable contribution has benefits for both you and the community. Every bit contributes to a healthier, thriving Vermont.

Week 2

Follow-Up and Impact

We’ll check in with you to acknowledge your donation and share how your vehicle has made a difference. This follow-up not only reinforces your positive impact but also keeps you connected to our ongoing mission. Together, we are making Vermont a stronger, more supportive community.
